Cleaning and rinsing, cutting and sawing, staining, texturing and coating, down to cleaning the fab – the solar industry’s entire process chain generates waste gases and wastewaters that are contaminated at varying degrees with silicon- or metal dusts; highly alkaline or acidic water also requires treatment and, depending on the process, PEG, fluoride and ammonium might need to be removed from the water. Pollution Abatement Facility
DAS offers a combined waste gas and waste water treatment solution to its customers in the solar industry. The Pollution Abatement Facility for Solar Fabs was developed for silicon thinfilm technologies and aims especially on the elimination of fine dust emission. As a specialist in "point-of-use"-waste management technology DAS possesses not only extensive know-how in the treatment of loaded process emissions, but also has the technological expertise to answer any of the photovoltaic industry's questions regarding operational safety and system integration.
When producing thin-layer solar cells diverse gases are employed. The efficient and compact DAS gas abatement technology combines burn/wet technologies in the smallest of spaces. In addition, the waste water from the production of silicon-based solar cells usually caustic potash solution with dissolved fluoride-ions as well as silicon-dioxide SiO2 in the form of small particles which can also be treated with DAS wastewater treatment systems.
Processes like precipitation, coagulation and neutralization treat the polluted process wastewater adequately. Solids are separated and disposed in respective waste sites. The remaining water can be directly discharged into the local sewage system without any further treatment.
If desired DAS also delivers systems for production supply with softened as well as ultra pure water. Within these systems recycling processes are possible, which can cut considerably, operational costs.
